Utah Tech closed out the road portion of its final Western Athletic Conference season in heartbreaking fashion as the Trailblazers were walked off at UT Arlington by an 8-5 count in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Â
Like they did in Saturday's game two victory, the Trailblazers (30-20/8-6 WAC) got off to another quick start offensively on Sunday.
Kyle McDaniel opened the game with a bloop opposite field single to left and would go first-to-third on perfectly executed hit-and-run base knock from
Hudson Manwaring.
Â
McDaniel later scampered home carrying the game's first run on a
Ryan Kroepel safety squeeze, while Manwaring, who was balked over to third base, scored on a
Miller Durham groundout to make it a 2-0 game.Â
Â
After UT Arlington (17-28/6-8 WAC) battled back to tie the game at 4-4 in the fifth, the Mavericks took their first lead of the afternoon in the home seventh thanks the second of two Preston Knott solo home runs.
Â
Utah Tech clapped right back in the eighth when with a runner at third and two outs,
Petey Soto Jr. singled through the left side of the infield to chase home
Mays Madsen carrying the tying run.
Â
The Trailblazers had a chance to reclaim the lead in the ninth with runners on the corners and one out, but UTA reliever Hayes Melville thwarted the chance by inducing an inning-ending double play.
Â
The game stayed tied until the UTA 11
th when the Mavericks won the game on a walk-off Hank Harp three-run homer. Â
Â
Utah Tech lost despite outhitting UTA 11-10, with Manwaring leading the way with his second four-hit game in as many days. Manwaring hit .714 (10-for-14) in the series overall with two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored.
Â
McDaniel also collected a pair of hits out of the lead-off spot, while Soto Jr. went 2-for-5 to go with his RBI.
Â
Utah Tech wraps up its 2026 road slate this Tuesday afternoon with a quick trip up I-15 to Salt Lake City for an in-state battle at Utah. First pitch at Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark on the Utah campus is set for 4:05 p.m. (MT).Â
