Utah Tech could not clinch its second-striaght road WAC series as the Trailblazers were shut out at California Baptist, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon at Totman Stadium.
Â
Utah Tech (28-16/6-3 WAC) got off to tough start, when after the Blazers were retired in order to begin the game, the first three Lancers reached to begin the home first, culminating with a three-run Cole Hansen home run.
Â
CBU (33-11/7-5 WAC) used the long ball to stretch its lead to 5-0 in the third thanks to a two-run Connor Ross shot over the centerfield wall.
Â
Meanwhile CBU righthander Ryne Palmer held the Utah Tech offense without a base hit, and to two total base runners, until
Ryan Kroepel broke through with a two-out double in the sixth inning.
Â
Utah Tech managed to lead off the seventh with a
Ty Johnsen infield single, but the Blazers could not string any more hits together in the frame. The Trailblazers were limited to those two base hits the rest of the way as they were kept out of the run column for just the second time this season.
Â
Utah Tech returns home for four-straight games, starting with a midweek date vs. UNLV on Tuesday night, April 28. First pitch at Bruce Hurst Field is set for 6:05 p.m. (MT).Â
