Utah Tech saw its five-game win streak snapped after a 7-3 road loss at California Baptist in the first game of a pivotal three-game weekend WAC weekend series on Friday night at Totman Stadium.

The two sides traded scoreless frames until the home third when the Lancers (32-10/6-4 WAC) managed to push across the first two runs of the night.

Utah Tech (27-15/5-2 WAC) got one of those runs back in the fourth when
Ty Johnsen singled home
Ryan Kroepel, who reached on a one-out base hit.

The Trailblazers picked up another run in the fifth when after a
Petey Soto Jr. double,
Kyle McDaniel chased him home on sharp single to center.

Unfortunately for Utah Tech, CBU matched those runs with single tallies in it half of those stanzas, then tacked on two more runs in the sixth to open up 6-2 advantage after six innings complete.

Utah Tech drew to within 6-3 with two outs in the eighth on a
Bryan Martinez double, his first extra base hit and second RBI as a Trailblazer.

However the Lancers pushed across an insurance run in their last swings of the night, then held the Blazers scoreless in the ninth to close out the game.

McDaniel and Johnsen each collected two hits apiece as Utah Tech finished with eight safeties on the night, while Kroepel drew three walks to go with his base knock and he scored two of Utah Tech's three runs.Â

Meanwhile Soto Jr.'s double in the fifth extended his career long hit streak to 15-straight games, and his on-base streak to a career high 35-straight games.Â

The two teams will play the middle game of their three-game WAC weekend series on Saturday night beginning at 6:05 p.m. (MT).
