(Las Vegas - March 8, 2026) - The Trailblazers closed out the UNLV Red & Black Classic on Sunday afternoon with a 9-5 win over North Dakota State at Eller Media Softball Stadium.
Utah Tech (10-14) tallied nine hits in the contest highlighted by the first two career home runs from freshman
Summer Sanderson who smacked a pair of two-run long balls.
For the fourth straight game,
Kinley Pappas notched two hits driving in an RBI and scored a run while
Gabi Giroux tallied a double, drew two walks and drove in two RBIs.
In the circle,
Sauren Garton made her 10th start of the season tossing 4.1 scoreless innings.
Lexie Wilson came on to toss 0.2 innings and
Delaney Wright earned her second win of the season throwing the final two innings striking out three.
How It Happened
After a scoreless first three innings, the Trailblazers struck first in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer to center by Sanderson.
NDSU answered back with three runs in the sixth, but that lead was short-lived as Utah Tech exploded for a seven-run bottom of the sixth sending 11 Trailblazers to the plate.
A leadoff single by
Maka Sonognini put a runner on base for Sanderson who followed with her second home run of the afternoon to regain the lead at 4-3.
Back-to-back RBI singles by
Sadie Phillips and Pappas pushed the Trailblazers in front, 6-3 and Giroux extended it to 8-3 driving home both Phillips and Pappas with a two-run RBI double to right-center.
One final run came home after Sonognini came up for a second time in the frame reaching base on a fielding error by the Bison.
NDSU added a pair of sacrifice flies in the seventh, but Wright held off the Bison for the four-run win.
