Gavin Glasgow's walk-off grand slam home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted Utah Tech Baseball to a dramatic 6-4 come-from-behind victory over Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Â
With the victory, the Trailblazers completed a four-game, 2026 home-opening series sweep of the visiting Bears to improve to 11-1 on the young season.
Â
Utah Tech's 11-1 record is the program's best start during its brief time as an NCAA Division I program. In addition, the Blazers' hot start is now the second-best in the program's four-year era overall (12-1 in 2013), eclipsing a 10-1 start to begin the 2016 campaign.Â
Â
The Trailblazers bookended their day at the plate with the long ball, starting in the home first inning when
Ryan Kroepel got Utah Tech on the board with a two-out blast over the right centerfield wall.
Â
Utah Tech would up its lead to 2-0 in the third, scoring a run without benefit of a base hit.
Petey Soto Jr. was plunked to lead off the frame. He later stole second, advanced to third base on a fly out, and scored on a Glasgow sacrifice fly ball to right field.
Â
In fact, the hits were hard to come by for the Blazers throughout much of the game as three Bear hurlers combined to limit Utah Tech to only three hits and seven total base runners through the first seven innings.
Â
Meanwhile Northern Colorado (0-12) wrestled the lead away with three two-out runs in the fifth, then tacked on another two-out tally in the eighth to extend to a 4-2 advantage.
Â
In the Trailblazer ninth,
Mays Madsen reached on a one-out, eight-pitch walk to begin the rally. Soto Jr. followed with a sharp single to center to chase Madsen to third.
Â
After a UNCO pitching change,
Kyle McDaniel walked to load the bases ahead of Glasgow, who ambushed a 1-0 Gus Allred (L, 0-1) fastball and deposited it over the left field wall to end the game.
Â
Soto Jr. wound up with two of Utah Tech's six total hits on the afternoon. The junior shortstop batted .500 (6-for-12) in the series overall with three extra hits along with five RBI and two stolen bases.
Â
Glasgow finished the day with a career-high five RBI to go with his first home run as a Trailblazer. The senior's walk-off homer came just over 10 years to-the-day of Utah Tech's last walk-off grand slam.Â
Â
Former Blazer Division II All-American
Tanner Morache was the last to achieve the feat, doing so in a 9-6, 10-inning home victory over Saint Martin's (2/21/16), which coincidentally also happened in 2016 to cap Utah Tech's 10-0 start to that season.
Â
Junior righthander
Brandon Kosel (ND) struck out for over four shutout innings in his third start of the season, but he did not figure in the decision.Â
Â
Senior reliever
Ethan Gardner also fanned four over 2.2 innings of relief, while sophomore
Talan Kelly (W, 2-0) punched out two over the final 1.1 innings to collect the win out of the bullpen.
Â
Utah Tech wraps up its eight-game homestand next weekend with a four-game series vs. Austin Peay. Â
