(Los Angeles - Feb. 8, 2026) - The Trailblazers wrapped up Opening Weekend action on Sunday afternoon falling 9-1 in five innings to Loyola Marymount and 10-4 to UC Santa Barbara at Smith Field.
Utah Tech (0-5) held leads in both contests, but were unable to hold on to either lead as they tallied four hits against LMU and five hits in the second game against the Gauchos.
Led by a pair of singles by
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona in the first game, the Trailblazers tallied three doubles in game two getting a pair from
Lauren Jones and one more from
Summer Sanderson.
In the circle,
Riley Price got the start in game one tossing three innings before
Delaney Wright threw the final 1.2 innings.
Sauren Garton got the start in the second game throwing three innings and striking out three before giving way to
Cemryn Pickett,
Lexie Wilson and Price in the final three innings.
How It Happened at LMU
The Trailblazers struck first against the Lions getting three of the first four batters on base with singles by
Kinley Pappas and Kahahawai-Kekona and a walk to Wright.
Gabi Giroux drew a bases-loaded and with UT looking to tack on more runs, Jones went down on strikes and a final ground out by
Abby Davidson ended the inning.
LMU answered with three runs in the second, added an RBI double for one run in the third and posted two more runs in the fourth for a 6-1 lead.
With UT threatening to get on the board in the fifth after singles by Kahahawai-Kekona & Wright, the Lions finished out the game with a run-rule tacking on three more runs in the fifth.
How It Happened vs. UC Santa Barbara
The Gauchos jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings smacking a two-run homer in the second by Delania Ma'ae and added an RBI single in the third.
The Trailblazers responded with a four-run fourth inning starting the offense with a double by Jones and walks to
Kennedy Embrey &
Jayda Gleave loaded the bases.
An RBI ground out by
Kamryn Caldwell scored UT's first run and Embrey and Gleave came around to score after a UCSB throwing error tied the game at three.
Another throwing error by the Gauchos allowed Davidson to come home to score and give the Trailblazers a 4-3 lead.
That advantage on the scoreboard was short-lived with UCSB responding with a four-run bottom of the fourth tying the game with a solo home run, took the lead with a bases-loaded walk and added a two-run RBI single to center field for a 7-4 lead.
The Gauchos finished out the contest scoring three more runs in the sixth with a pair of home runs and went on to hold the Trailblazers off the board in the seventh for the six-run victory.
