(St. George, Utah - Feb. 28, 2026) - A walk-off single by
Baylee Howley powered a comeback 5-4 victory over Weber State on Saturday night at Karl Brooks Field.
Allowing three late runs in the top of the seventh inning, Utah Tech (7-11) answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to rally for the comeback victory over Weber State (3-16).
Held to three hits in the contest, the Trailblazers got a double from
Gabi Giroux, her third of the season, along with singles by Howley and
Sadie Phillips.
Phillips scored a pair of runs while
Drew McKown and
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona each drew a pair of walks.
In the circle, freshman
Delaney Wright tossed a season-high six innings limiting the Wildcats to four hits, three runs, one earned and struck out eight.
Lexie Wilson came on in relief after two batters in the seventh to earn her fourth win of the season throwing one inning and struck out one.
How It Happened
The first three innings of the contest saw neither side claim a base hit before the Wildcats struck first on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly.
The Trailblazers answered back with a two-run bottom of the frame scoring the first run on an RBI double by Giroux to right-center and added an RBI ground out by Wright to put UT ahead 2-1.
Two more scoreless innings brought the Trailblazers on the brink of victory in the top of the seventh with Wilson coming on in relief of Wright to get a pair of outs.
With the tying run on third base and the go-ahead run on second, the Wildcats took advantage of a Trailblazer fielding error in right field to score a pair of runs to go ahead, 3-2 and added a run on a wild pitch for a two-run lead.
The first three Trailblazers that came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh all drew walks and with the Giroux at the plate, both
Kinley Pappas and Phillips scored on a fielding error by Weber State's first baseman.
Two batters later, Howley came up and drilled a single to center field to drive home Kahahawai-Kekona for the walk-off victory.
