Trailblazers Stopped by WAC Leading CBU on Thursday Night

Utah Tech gave WAC-leading California Baptist all it could handle, but a late Lancer run proved to be the Trailblazers' undoing in a hard-fought 75-67 home loss on Thursday night inside the Burns Arena.

How it happened
Utah Tech (5-8/0-3 WAC) led 16-13 after the opening 10 minutes of play, though a 13-6 Lancer spurt over a five-plus minute span in the second quarter erased the lead and staked CBU to a 26-22 advantage after a Lauren Olsen 3-pointer with 4:40 to play until halftime.

The Trailblazer offense then caught fire as Utah Tech went 5-of-6 from the perimeter, including two 3-pointers apiece for Andjela Colic and Maddie Warren

Lauren Crocker also drained a trey of her own as the Blazers connected on 6-of-10 from beyond the arc in the stanza overall, which propelled them back to a three-point lead at 37-34 at the intermission.

CBU (10-7/4-0 WAC) got off to a hot start to begin the second half, striking for the first eight points of the period over a two-plus minute span to vault out to its biggest lead of the game at 42-37.

Paige Cofer finally stopped the run with the second 3-pointer of the night, while two Warren free throws would pull the Trailblazers even at 42-42 at the 6:52 mark of the third quarter.

The two sides then traded scores over the final six-plus minutes of the frame, but it was the Lancers who would enjoy a three-point cushion at 57-54 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Utah Tech was unable to wrestle the lead away from CBU, though the Blazers did manage to pull even at 64-64 thanks to a Colic trifecta with 4:43 remaining.

From there it was all CBU as the Lancers went on to score 11 of the games' final 14 points to keep Utah Tech winless in conference play.

Numbers to know
Warren led four Trailblazers in double figures with 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting with a season-high tying three 3-pointers. Warren also went 5-of-6 at the foul line and pulled down a season-high six rebounds.

Meanwhile Cofer poured in 13 points on 5-of-9 from the floor with a pair of threes and pulled down seven rebounds.

Crocker and Kaylee Borden tallied 10 points apiece, while Colic finished with a career-high nine points thanks to a 3-of-4 effort from the perimeter.

Utah Tech shot 39.7 percent from the floor (23-of-58), which included a WAC season -high nine 3-pointers (9-of-23; .391). The Trailblazers also went 12-of-19 (.632) at the foul line and recorded 15 assists on their 23 made field goals, including a game-high five dimes from Chardonnay Hartley

Khloe Lemon led all scorers with 18 points off the bench to pace CBU, while Olsen and Shawnee Nordstrom each finished with 16 points apiece.

CBU connected on 38.0 percent (27-of-71) of its field goal attempts with 10 3-pointers (10-of-31; .323), and outrebounded Utah Tech by a 44-39 count.
