Utah Tech could not overcome a decisive Tarleton State first half run as the Trailblazers saw their WAC conference winless streak reach six games after a 63-45 home loss on Saturday afternoon in the Burns Arena.
How it happenedÂ
Utah Tech (6-14/1-9 WAC) enjoyed its only lead of the day at 8-4 midway through the first quarter thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from
Lauren Crocker and
Brie Crittendon.
Â
Tarleton State (11-9/5-4 WAC) quickly erased the Blazer lead with 12-straight points as part of an 18-3 run that helped the Texans race out to a commanding 22-11 advantage in the early moments of the second period.
Â
Crittendon finally ended the Texan rally with a 3-pointer, and the two sides traded scores for the rest of the first half as Utah Tech retreated into the halftime break down 30-21.Â
Â
Utah Tech managed to make it a two-possession game at 35-29 after a
Rose Boisnel trifecta with seven-plus minutes to play in the third quarter, but Tarleton kept the Blazers at bay for entire second half and pulled away late to earn the road victory.  Â
Â
Numbers to know
Crittendon was the lone Blazer to score in double figures, finishing with a WAC season-high 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting with four 3-pointers.
Â
Boisnel chipped in nine points off the bench, while Crocker and
Kaylee Borden tallied nine points apiece.Â
Â
Crocker also pulled down a game and career-high 12 rebounds, and tied her career high with four blocked shots, which helped vault her from 10
th place into fifth place on Utah Tech's single-season list (34). Â
Â
Utah Tech was limited to 29.6 percent shooting from the floor (16-of-54), which included an 8-of-37 clip (.216) from the perimeter.Â
Â
Jakoriah Long led three Texans in double figures with 20 points, 11 of which came in the third quarter that helped quell a potential Utah Tech rally.
Â
Tarleton shot 37.5 percent (24-of-64) in the game and went 9-of-23 (.391) from beyond the arc. The Texans also outrebounded the Trailblazers by a 51-31 count, including a 16-5 edge on the offensive glass.Â
Up Next
Utah Tech will embark on its longest road stretch of the season, a three-game swing that begins with a return trip to "The Lone Star State" for a WAC match-up at UT Arlington next Thursday, Feb. 5.
