(St. George, Utah - Jan. 24, 2026) - Behind six Trailblazers in double figures, Utah Tech defeated Southern Utah, 102-91 in front of 3,833 fans on Saturday night at Burns Arena.
In front of its largest crowd in nearly three years, Utah Tech (11-11, 4-4 WAC) went over the 100-point mark for the first time ever against a Division I opponent in the Division I era and downed Southern Utah (7-14, 3-5 WAC) for the second time this season.
Led by a career-high 29 points from
Ethan Potter, the three-time WAC Player of the Week went 11-of-15 from the field and tallied his fourth double-double of the season grabbing 11 rebounds.
Chance Trujillo came off the bench to tally 17 points, including hitting three three-pointers, while
Britton Berrett registered 14 points and matched his career high with four three-pointers.
Tanner Davis and
Noah Bolanga each posted 13 points apiece and
Jusaun Holt rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points and a career-best 12 assists for his first career double-double.
The Trailblazers shot 54.2 percent (39-72) from the field, 42.9 percent (9-21) from three-point range and 75 percent (15-20) from the free throw line.
SUU was led by a double-double by senior forward Jaiden Feroah finishing with 35 points and 12 rebounds along with 28 points by freshman guard Elijah Duval.
How It Happened
With the Thunderbirds getting off to an 11-10 lead, back-to-back three-pointers by Trujillo and a triple by Holt pushed UT ahead, 19-11.
A jumper by Bolanga kept the Trailblazers in front, 32-20 with 8:16 to play in the opening half, but a 19-7 run for the Thunderbirds tied up the score at 39 with 3:58 to go.
A triple from the top of the arc by Trujillo pushed the Trailblazers back in front, 42-39 and after a pair of free throws by SUU, a 10-0 run for the Trailblazers capped by a three-pointer by Berrett made it 52-41 in favor of UT.
Leading by nine at halftime, the Trailblazers pushed their lead to as many as 15 (77-62) after a jumper by Potter with 11:20 to play in the second half.
The Thunderbirds answered back with a 17-6 run to cut the Trailblazers lead to four (83-79) before a court-length pass from Holt to Trujillo pushed the lead back to six.
A layup by Duval with 2:39 to play brang the Thunderbirds within five at 93-88, but Bolanga answered right back with a thunderous slam.
A three-pointer by Bolanga and a pair of free throws &Â one final dunk by Holt punctuated an 11-point victory over the Thunderbirds.
Numbers to Know
- The Trailblazers have now won three straight contests over the Thunderbirds and narrowed the all-time series to 7-6 in favor of SUU.
- Utah Tech led SUU in rebounds (33-32), assists (25-14), steals (6-2). points off turnovers (13-4), second chance points (16-11), bench points (23-4) &Â points in the paint (46-42).
- The 25 assists tied a season high matching the 25 assists against Justice on Dec. 13.
- The 3,833 fans was the largest crowd in Burns Arena since 3,962 also against Southern Utah on Feb. 4, 2023.
- It is the second time this season the Trailblazers have had six players in double figures joining a win over Bethesda on Nov. 5.
- The 102 points scored against a Division I opponent are its most in the D1 era.
- The 91 points allowed are also the second-most allowed in a victory in the Division I era behind only a 96-92 overtime win at home over FIU on Dec. 30, 2023.
- The 12 assists by Holt are tied for the second-most in a single game in program history behind 13 by Jeremiah Barnes against Pacifica in 2010-11.
