MSOC - Short and Rogers Earn WAC Weekly Honors

(Arlington, Texas - Sept. 9, 2025) – Utah Tech men's soccer tallied two University Credit Union WAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week, the Western Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday. Sophomore forward Taylor Rogers was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week, and senior goalkeeper Stockton Short was tabbed as one of the WAC Goalkeepers of the Week, for the match week ending on Monday, Sept. 8.

Rogers and Short are the first Trailblazers to earn WAC men's soccer weekly honors this season. The awards are Rogers' first career selection and Short's fourth career selection.

Rogers, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, recorded a brace against CSU Bakersfield, scoring the game-winning goal in the 80th minute.  Freshman midfielder Jacob Cinelli set up junior forward Samir Cuevas, who sent a through ball just inside the box. Rogers took a touch to his right and buried the game-winning goal with his right foot.

He followed that up with an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. Sophomore midfielder Dunes Nielsen and senior midfielder Jerod Allen ran a give-and-go to get into the right side of the box, and Nielsen centered the ball to Rogers, who spun around his defender and sent the ball into the back of the net with his left foot.

It was Rogers' first multi-goal match of his collegiate career and his first and second goals of the season. Rogers is now tied for the team lead in goals (2) and points (5).

Short, a native of Pleasant View, Utah, tallied five saves to earn his first shutout of the season against CSUB. His five stops tied his season-high for saves in a game, having also logged five against Gonzaga and at Sacramento State.

It was Short's seventh career shutout, putting him at fourth all-time in Utah Tech history.

Short's 22 saves this season lead the WAC and tie for 13th in the nation. He's averaging 4.40 saves per game, which also leads the conference and is 40th in the nation.

Rogers, Short and the rest of the Trailblazers return to action on Friday, Sept. 12, at UC San Diego in San Diego, California. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. (MT) at Triton Soccer Stadium, and the match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
