(Arlington, Texas - May 6, 2025) - For a second straight season, junior infielder
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona earned All-WAC Second Team honors, the conference announced on Tuesday.
After earning Second Team All-WAC honors in 2024 as a sophomore, the Wailuka, Hawai'i native repeated the efforts for the Trailblazers this season.
As voted on by the league's 10 head coaches, Â Kahahawai-Kekona led the Trailblazers hitting .351 from the dish and tied for ninth in the WAC with 52 hits.
Making 48 starts, all at shortstop, in Utah Tech's 50 games, Kahahawai-Kekona led the team with 148 at-bats, tied for the team lead with 31 RBI and ranked second on the club with 30 runs scored & 67 total bases.
Collecting hits in 34 total contests, Kahahawai-Kekona ranked second on the team with 13 multi-hit games.
Posting a season high three base knocks in five contests, she scored a season-best three runs in a extra-inning 4-3 loss to Idaho State at the Lyman Classic on Feb. 22 and drove in a season-leading pair of RBI in seven games.
In 23 WAC contests, Kahahawai-Kekona hit .257 registering 18 hits, scored 12 runs, drove in 11 RBI, drew seven walks and stole three bases.
Notching a base knock in 15 games, she tallied three multi-hit games and tallied a single, double, scored a pair of runs and drove in an RBI in an 8-4 win at Abilene Christian on March 28.
Grand Canyon, who claimed the WAC regular season title and won its last 18 WAC contests, were awarded the WAC Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Coach of the Year while Priscilla Estrada of California Baptist was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year and Tarleton State pitcher Shelby Schultz was awarded the WAC Freshman of the Year.
The Trailblazers finished the season with a 15-35 overall record and finished ninth in the WAC with a 6-18 mark.
