(Ogden, Utah - May 3, 2025) - The Trailblazers wrapped up the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon dropping a doubleheader at Weber State falling 9-4 in game one and 8-0 in six innings in game two at Wildcat Softball Field.
Utah Tech (15-35) totaled eight hits in game one getting base knocks from eight different Trailblazers, including a double from senior
Carly Eldredge.
Game two saw the Trailblazers limited to three hits with singles from Eldredge and
Marisa Rubio and a triple from
Kinley Pappas.
In the circle,
Sauren Garton and
Lexie Wilson each worked three innings apiece in game one combining for eight strikeouts.
The nightcap saw a five-inning performance from
Riley Price, striking out four Wildcats, before
Cemryn Pickett finished out the game in the sixth.
Game One Recap
Weber State (24-29) got the scoring started in the first game with two runs in the first and one more in the second for a 3-0 lead.
The Trailblazers answered back with two runs in the third on back-to-back bases-loaded walks to Rubio and
Jorja Crider issued by Wildcat relief pitcher Joslynn Veltien, who came on for starting pitcher Raina Navarro.
WSU responded with a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the frame to take a 4-2 lead before a two-run fourth inning for UT knotted the game at four apiece.
Back-to-back singles by
Maka Sonognini and Pappas put runners on base for
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona, who knocked home Sonognini from second with an RBI single to left field.
After a single by
Rylie Haith loaded the bases,
Gabi Giroux was hit by a pitch to bring home Pappas tying the game at four.
It was all Wildcats from there as Weber State answered back with four runs in the bottom of the fourth on three RBI base hits and added an RBI bunt in the fifth to push their lead to 9-4.
A leadoff double by Eldredge got the offense started in the sixth, but that was the final hit of the contest for the Trailblazers, as the Wildcats went on for the five-run victory.
Game Two Recap
A leadoff triple to left by Pappas made it look like the Trailblazers were bound to score early in the contest, but the next three Trailblazers were retired in order to keep UT off the scoreboard.
The Wildcats got the scoring started in the second on an RBI single to right and added a second run in the third for a 2-0 lead.
With the Trailblazers able to bring the tying run to the plate in the sixth after an error by the Wildcat shortstop allowed
Jayda Gleave to reach base, Rubio flew out to left to end the threat.
A six-run bottom of the frame ended the contest early as the Wildcats batted through the order combining for seven hits.
Numbers to Know
- Eldredge finishes her career with 199 hits to rank eighth in program history in the NCAA era (since 2007).
- Eldredge also finishes her career among the top 10 in at-bats (7th, 580) and assists (10th, 194).
- Eight different Trailblazers, who all played in 39 games or more, hit over .300 on the season, while Utah Tech hit .303 as a team on the season.
- The Trailblazers also posted top 10 single season marks as a team in triples (3rd, 16), fielding percentage (8th, .958) and walks drawn (T-10th, 160).
