(Greenwood, Ind. - May 27, 2025) - Five Utah Tech softball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday.
Carly Eldredge (Biomedical Sciences, 3.86),
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona (Comm. Studies, Health Communication, 3.96 ),
Marisa Rubio (Comm. Studies, 3,99),
Cassidy Hornung (Business Management, 3.77) and
Riley Price (Exercise Science, 3.72) all earned the academic honor for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher while being at least sophomores.
Position players had to compete in at least 90 percent or start 66 percent of the team's total games this season while pitchers had to make at least 17 appearances or pitch 35.0 innings.
Rubio and Eldredge earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors for the third straight season, Kahahawai-Kekona garnered the accolade for a second year and it is the first career honor for both Hornung and Price.
Kahahawai-Kekona, who earned Second Team All-WAC honors, led the Trailblazers hitting .351 from the plate, with Eldredge following close behind registering a .347 mark.
Hornung and Rubio also each hit over .300 while Price earned six wins in the circle while making 28 appearances in 100.0 innings of work.
Kahahawai-Kekona along with 203 other student-athletes nationally were selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.
The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 17.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
