Utah Tech could not get the bats going offensively as the Trailblazers were shut out by visiting Utah Valley, 15-0 in seven innings, on Sunday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Â
Things quickly unraveled for the Trailblazers (15-16/1-5 WAC) in the top of the first inning after an error on a potential inning-ending double play extended the frame and led to two unearned runs off of junior righthander
Dakoda West (L, 1-5).
Â
Utah Valley (21-10/7-2 WAC) then broke the game open in consecutive six-run innings in both the third and fourth stanzas, while the Wolverines tacked on another run for good measure in the seventh.
Meanwhile, UVU southpaw Jacob Heppner (W, 4-0) faced the minimum over seven innings complete, striking out four while allowing only two Trailblazer singles en route to the complete-game victory.Â
Kyle McDaniel led off the Utah Tech fourth with an opposite field base hit, while
Will Dart reached on a pinch-hit single to center field to begin the seventh. Unfortunately the Blazers were not able to string more hits together in either inning as both base runners were ultimately erased on double plays.Â
Â
Utah Tech wraps up the homestand, and the in-state portion of its 2025 schedule, this Tuesday afternoon when the Trailblazers welcome BYU to Bruce Hurst Field. First pitch is slated for 4:05 p.m. (MT).Â
