(Arlington, Texas - April 17, 2025) - Utah Tech women's tennis was defeated by UT Arlington 4-0 in the first round of the WAC Tennis Championships at the Arlington Tennis Center on Thursday. The Trailblazers finish the 2025 dual season with a 7-13 record.
UTA took the doubles point with a 6-1 win in the first match and a 6-3 victory in the third match.
Sophomores
Olivia Bustos and
Ana Gutierrez Sampere battled back to take a 4-3 lead over UTA seniors Imoana Dumitrescu and Ana Paula Jimenez before the second doubles match went unfinished.Â
The Mavericks won singles matches at the fourth, fifth and sixth spots to secure their victory. UT didn't make it easy for the tournament hosts, with each Trailblazer but one winning at least four games in each singles contest.
Sophomore
Mariana Zurita won the first set 6-4 over Jimenez at the No. 1 spot before the match went unfinished at 3-3 in the second set.Â
At the No. 2 spot, Gutierrez Sampere claimed a competitive first set 7-5 over senior Mialy Ranaivo before the match was left unfinished.
The No. 3-seeded Mavericks will challenge No. 2 Tarleton State in the semifinal round tomorrow at 10 a.m. (MT).
