Trailblazers Tripped Up at Seattle U in 2024-25 Regular Season Finale

Despite all five Trailblazer starters scoring in double figures, Utah Tech wrapped up the 2024-25 regular season on a sour note as the Trailblazers were tripped up at Seattle U, 69-65, on Saturday afternoon at the Redhawk Center.

The loss, Utah Tech's 13-straight overall, dropped the Trailblazers to 5-24 overall, 1-15 in Western Athletic Conference play. Meanwhile the Redhawks snapped their 15-game slide as Seattle U improved to 4-25, 1-15 in league play.

How it happened
The Trailblazers got off to a great start offensively, connecting on four of their first six shots, including two Paige Cofer 3-pointers, en route to a quick 11-4 advantage just 3:24 into play.

Seattle U came storming back, outscoring Utah Tech 13-2 over the next four-plus minutes to erase the deficit and take a 17-13 lead.

Utah Tech countered with a Chardonnay Hartley bucket and three points from Ellie Taylor to jump back out in front by a point, only to see Redhawk guard Julianna Walker drain a desperation mid-court shot at the quarter horn to give Seattle U to a 20-18 lead after one quarter complete.

The Redhawks enjoyed a slim 31-29 cushion halftime intermission, and would later open up their biggest of the game at 50-38 with just under three minutes to play in the third quarter.

Utah Tech rallied with a 13-1 run over the final two-plus minutes of the third, and the opening moments of the fourth period to pull to within one point at 52-51 with 9:21 to play after a Brie Crittendon three-ball.

Seattle U answered with nine-unanswered points of its own to extend back to a double-digit advantage at 61-51 with seven minutes remaining.

The Trailblazers clapped back with a 13-2 spurt, spurred on by 3-pointers from both Calyn Dallas and Crittendon, to wrestle the lead away at 64-63 after two Hartley free throws with 2:18 to go.

After the two sides swapped empty possessions and the shot clock winding down, Walker came through with another clutch 3-pointer to put Seattle U back in front at 66-64 with 1:14 on the clock.

Hartley would split a pair of free throws on Utah Tech's ensuing possession, and then came up with a big steal on the Redhawks' next trip down the court.

However Hartley's fast-break chance for the go-ahead basket would not go down and Seattle U was awarded the ball after the rebound was deflected out of bounds.

The Redhawks went on to go 3-of-4 at the foul line in the closing seconds, and held Utah Tech scoreless in the waning seconds, to escape with the home win.

Numbers to know
Hartley flirted with a triple-double as she finished with team highs of 15 points and eight assists, along with a season-high tying six rebounds.

Crittendon added 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, and pulled down five boards.

Cofer and Taylor each poured in 10 points, as did Emily Isaacson, who also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Isaacson also extended her career best 3-point streak to 23-straight games.

Saturday's game marked the second time this season that five Trailblazers scored in double figures. Utah Tech also had five players reach double figures in points in its season-opening win over Northern New Mexico (11/4/24).

Utah Tech shot 36.7 percent (22-of-60) from the floor, which included an 8-of-17 (.471) clip from beyond the arc. The Trailblazers also posted 15 assists on their 22 made field goals to just 12 turnovers.

However the Blazers struggled at the foul line as they went 13-of-23 (.565) at the stripe.

Walker led all scorers with 16 points, while Candy Edokpaigbe posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Seattle U went 25-of-63 (.397) from the floor, 6-of-26 (.231) from the perimeter, and connected on 13-of-14 (.929) at the charity stripe. The Redhawks also outrebounded the Blazers by a 42-35 count, including a 13-9 edge on the offensive glass.
