Utah Tech dropped the final game of its Western Athletic Conference season-opening series at California Baptist by a 10-2 count on Sunday afternoon at Totman Stadium.
As they did in the first two games of the series, the Trailblazers (14-13/1-2 WAC) drew first blood, cashing in an
Andrew Pyle lead-off walk with a
Petey Soto Jr. RBI-single with two outs in the second inning.
Junior
Dakoda West (L, 1-4) made that early lead stand through the first three innings of his start. However the Lancers (13-11/2-1 WAC) managed to solve the righthander in the fourth, striking for three runs to wrestle the lead away and chase Blazer hurler from the game.
After CBU plated and add-on run in the fourth, the Trailblazers made it a 4-2 game in the sixth thanks to a run-scoring ground out from
Ethan Royal.
Unfortunately that would be as close as Utah Tech would get as the Lancers countered with five unanswered runs over their final three offensive frames to salt away the overall series win.
Utah Tech was limited to seven hits on the afternoon, while the Blazers were done in by a series high four errors, which led to five unearned CBU runs.
The Trailblazers returns home to play the first of consecutive home-and-home games against in-state foe Utah this upcoming Tuesday afternoon. First pitch at Bruce Hurst Field is set for 4:05 p.m. (MT).
