(Fullerton, Calif. - Feb. 9, 2025) - The Trailblazers wrapped up the Easton Classic on Sunday afternoon falling 8-0 in five innings to host Cal State Fullerton at Anderson Family Field.
Limited to four singles on the afternoon, Utah Tech (2-3) saw its strong offensive start to the start slowed down.Â
In the circle, sophomore
Riley Price made her third start of the weekend tossing one inning allowing three hits, five runs, struck out two and walked one. Freshman
Lexie Wilson finished out the game working the final three innings allowing three hits and three runs.
Cal State Fullerton (4-1) got the scoring started with three runs in the first inning scoring a pair on an RBI double to center field and an RBI single to left.
With Wilson replacing Price in the circle, the Titans added three more runs in the second to extend their lead to 6-0 and tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to make it 8-0.
With singles by
Baylee Howley and
Marisa Rubio in the fifth, the Trailblazers had runners on the corners with two outs, but
Ellie Evans went down on strikes to end the contest.
Tournament Notes
- The Trailblazers totaled 35 hits and 52 hits in the tournament with eight doubles and two triples.
- Four Trailblazers hit over .400 in the tournament with Sadie Gardner leading the way (.667, 8-12) along with Cassidy Hornung (.583, 7-12), LB Kahahawai-Kekona (.500, 7-14) and Carly Eldredge (.467, 7-15).
- Sauren Garton went 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA in 12.0 innings. She struck out 15 while walking four and held opponents to a .171 batting average.
- Seven newcomers made their Utah Tech debuts in the tournament with Hornung, Price and Wilson being joined by Rylie Haith, Kinley Pappas, Jorja Crider and Kennedy Embrey.
- The 17-2 win over Southern on Saturday night was the largest margin of victory and most runs scored since a 17-1 win over at UT Arlington on March 31, 2023.
