(St. George, Utah - Feb. 23, 2025) - Gettng a one-hitter from junior pitcher
Sauren Garton, the Trailblazers closed out the Lyman Classic Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 5-0 victory over Weber State.
Utah Tech (6-10), who earned its second shutout of the season and first since its season-opening win over UC Riverside on Feb. 7, tallied six hits on the afternoon.
Senior
Carly Eldredge led the way offensively for the Trailblazers with two hits and three RBI while five different Trailblazers scored one run apiece.
Garton earned her third win of the season and tossed her second complete game shutout of 2025.
Limiting Weber State (4-11) to a lone hit in the fourth inning, Garton walked two and struck out five while notching 106 pitches.
How It Happened
The Trailblazers got the scoring started in the opening inning with a sacrifice fly by
Marisa Rubio for a quick 1-0 lead.
Two more runs came home for Utah Tech in the second on a bases-loaded walk to
LB Kahahawai-Kekona and Eldredge added a sacrifice fly to center for a 3-0 lead.
The Trailblazers rounded out the scoring in the fourth with the final two runs of the contest on a two-out RBI double by Eldredge that found a gap in left-center to drive home both
Cassidy Hornung and
Drew McKown.
Making quick work of the fifth and sixth, Garton worked around a hit by pitch and walk in the seventh to get a pop up and strikeout for the final two outs and preserve the shutout win.
