(Honolulu, Hawaii - Feb. 16, 2025) - The Trailblazers closed out the Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament on Sunday night falling 8-6 in eight innings to Hawaii at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Utah Tech (4-7) and Hawaii (8-2) each totaled nine hits apiece with senior
Carly Eldredge leading the way for the Trailblazers with three base knocks, including her second double of the season, and added two RBI & scored a run.
Fellow senior
Marisa Rubio added a pair of singles while Hawaii native
Maka Sonognini scored a pair of runs as she reached base twice drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch.
In the circle, freshman
Cemryn Pickett made her second start of the season with
Riley Price tossing 5.1 innings and
Sauren Garton threw the final 1.2 innings to take her second loss.
How It Happened
Hawaii got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first, but the Trailblazers answered back in the third exploding for a five-run frame.
Getting started with an RBI single to left by Eldredge,
Baylee Howley followed with a two-run RBI double to center that drove in Elredge and
Cassidy Hornung and allowed
LB Kahahawai-Kekona to score on a Hawaii throwing error.
The scoring was closed out by Howley coming home to score on a wild pitch.
The Rainbow Wahine answered back with two runs to cut the Trailblazers lead to 5-4 before UT added an RBI single to center by Eldredge in the fourth to push their lead to 6-4.
A scoreless fifth led to a two-run sixth for Hawaii to lock up the game at six before a scoreless seventh sent the Trailblazers to extra innings for the third time this season.
Being held of the board in the top of the eighth, Hawaii smacked a leadoff two-run home run by Milan Ah Yat to give the Rainbow Wahine the comeback win.
