Utah Tech was handed its first home loss of the 2025-26 season by McNeese, 67-52, on Tuesday night inside the Burns Arena.
How it happenedÂ
The Trailblazers (4-3/0-0 WAC) enjoyed their only lead of the night at 6-2 after the game's first three minutes thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from
Brie Crittendon and
Chardonnay Hartley.
Â
McNeese (5-2) quickly erased the deficit with eight-straight points as part of a 14-2 run to bolt out to a 16-8 advantage with 3:10 left in the first quarter.
Â
Utah Tech clapped right back with a 10-2 spurt to draw even at 18-18.
Andjela Colic knocked down four free throws in the rally, which was capped by consecutive Crittendon trifectas, the second of which knotted the score with 1:11 on the clock.
Â
However the Cowgirls scored the final four points of the period, and went on to extend to a nine-point lead at 28-19 three-plus minutes into the second quarter.
Â
Crittendon kept the vibe going with a convention three-point play, followed by a
Kaylee Borden lay-in that pulled Utah Tech to within four points at 28-24.
Â
Unfortunately the Blazers would be held to only three points, all at the foul line, over the final 5:28 of the stanza and retreated to their locker room trailing by a 37-27 count.
Â
Maddie Warren opened the second half with a 3-pointer from the right wing to cut the deficit down to seven. But McNeese would go on to score nine of the game's next 11 points to up its lead to 46-32 after an Arianna Patton 3-pointer, which forced a Utah Tech timeout.
Â
McNeese would see its lead swell to as many as 21 points later in the second half in securing the midweek road victory.Â
Â
Numbers to know
Crittendon led all scorers with a season-high 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting with four 3-pointers. The redshirt senior guard also posted her second career double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds. Her 10 boards marked the fourth time in seven starts this season that Crittendon had tallied 10 or more rebounds.Â
Â
Hartley was the lone other Blazer to reach double figures as she poured in 11 points to go with a game-high three assists.Â
Â
Utah Tech was held to a season-low 52 points on 34.7 percent shooting (17-of-49). The Trailblazers were limited to only nine points and nine total shot attempts in that second quarter (2-of-9; .22.2).
Â
The Blazers went 9-of-26 (.346) from the perimeter and 9-of-14 (.643), and were done in by 20 turnovers, which led to 18 Cowgirl points.
Â
Patton paced four Cowgirls in double figures with 14 points. McNeese hit on 33.9 percent of its field goal attempts (21-of-62), including a 6-of-17 effort (.353) from beyond the arc. McNeese also went to the foul line 27 times and converted on 19 (.704) of those attempts.Â
