Late Run Ignites Trailblazers Past Lumberjacks, 78-73 to Open Season

It is the third straight season the Trailblazers have won their season opener.

(St. George, Utah - Nov. 8, 2025) - The Trailblazer women's basketball team opened the season on Saturday afternoon with a 78-73 victory over Northern Arizona at Burns Arena.

Utah Tech (1-0) scored 11 straight points late in the fourth quarter to turn a 69-63 deficit to a 74-69 lead going on to sink four late free throws to seal the season-opening win.

The Trailblazers were led by redshirt senior guard Kaylee Borden, a transfer from Nevada, with 21 points and senior guard Chardonnay Hartley added 19 points, five steals and four assists.

Redshirt senior guard Maddie Warren, seeing action for the first time since March 9, 2024, added 11 points, five rebounds and a pair of steals.

As a team, the Trailblazers shot 43.3 percent (26-60) from the field, 35.7 percent (10-28) from three-point range and 59.3 percent (16-27) from the free-throw line.

How It Happened
With Utah Tech leading for nearly the entire first half, the Lumberjacks took their first and only lead of the first 20 minutes with 1:17 to play after a jumper.

The Trailblazers responded with a three-pointer by Warren to take a narrow 31-30 lead to the locker room.

Another three-pointer by Warren got the second half started for Utah Tech, but after trading the lead back-and-forth throughout the quarter, NAU led 51-47 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Lumberjacks continued to build their lead to as many as eight (64-56) midway through the fourth and continued to lead by six (69-63) after a three-pointer with 1:56 remaining.

Refusing to go away quietly, a layup by Borden got the Trailblazers' 11-0 run ignited followed by a three-pointer from Calyn Dallas and a free throw by Warren tied the game at 69.

A layup by Borden and three free throws pushed UT up by five with 21 seconds remaining and after NAU was able to close to within three twice, two final free throws by Warren sealed the come-from-behind win.
