Trailblazers Knocked Out of WAC Tournament by Grand Canyon

(Riverside, Calif. - Nov. 12, 2025) – Utah Tech men's soccer was eliminated from the WAC Tournament by Grand Canyon, 5-0, in the semifinal round on Wednesday night at CBU Soccer Stadium.

Grand Canyon (12-3-4, 3-1-3 WAC) got on the board in the third minute, capitalizing on a second-chance opportunity. Freshman goalkeeper Luca Campoli saved Lope freshman forward Junior Diouf's initial shot, but freshman forward Max Kiefer cleaned up with a high right-footed shot. 

Utah Tech (4-7-6, 3-1-3 WAC) put up its first shot on goal in the 19th minute. Sophomore midfielder Dunes Nielsen tried a left-footer just outside the penalty area, but GCU graduate goalkeeper Daniel Ibarra made a one-handed save. 

Campoli denied Grand Canyon sophomore forward Alan Hermitte, sliding in front of a chance just outside of the penalty area in the 31st minute.

Nielsen headed a ball toward the top left corner in the 32nd minute, but Ibarra rose up to make a stop. 

The Lopes took a 2-0 lead to the locker rooms off a goal in the 45th minute. Lope senior forward Nelson Gomez Rodriguez capped off a Lope counterattack, chipping a goal over Campoli. GCU freshman midfielder Diego Sanchez assisted on the goal. 

GCU added an insurance goal in the 64th minute. Lope sophomore forward Richard Tabares Ochoa fired a shot to the top right of the back of the net off an assist by Diouf. 

Redshirt freshman Stetson Coy put a header on target in the 68th minute, but Ibarra made the save.

Diouf scored a header to put Grand Canyon up, 4-0, in the 73rd minute. GCU junior defender Felipe Cobian and Tabares Ochoa assisted on the goal. 

In the 86th minute, junior midfielder Landon Huebner blasted a low shot from the top of the box, but Ibarra laid out for the save.

Diouf finished off a counterattack in the 86th minute to increase the GCU lead to 5-0. Kiefer assisted on the goal.

Campoli denied Diouf a hat trick in the 88th minute — Campoli dove in front of Diouf's dribble at the top of the box to take away possession. The freshman GK finished his night with two saves.

Utah Tech outshot Grand Canyon 12-8, but the Lopes had a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. GCU had two more fouls, 12-10, and two more saves, 4-2.
