Isaacson Joins 1,000 Point Club as Trailblazers Knock Off Seattle U on Thursday Night, 80-70

Isaacson becomes sixth Blazer with 1,000 points, Hartley ties single game assist record in the victory

Emily Isaacson made history on Thursday night, becoming the sixth Trailblazer in program history to join the 1,000 Point Club, as she and three other Blazers scored in doubles figures to lead Utah Tech to an 80-70 home WAC victory over Seattle U inside the Burns Arena.

The win snapped the Trailblazers' seven-game losing skid as Utah Tech improved to 5-11 overall, 1-2 in conference play.

How it happened
Isaacson and Ellie Taylor got off to a hot start as the duo opened Utah Tech's scoring with back-to-back 3-pointers and combined to score 16 early points to pace the Blazers to an early 25-10 lead with 2:30 to go in the first quarter.

However Utah Tech could not quite bury Seattle U (3-13/0-3 WAC), thanks in large part to Tamia Stricklin. The Redhawk guard scored 13 first half points, including nine second-quarter points, which helped cut the Trailblazer lead to 39-32 with just under three minutes to play in the first half.

Kastyn Young pushed the Blazer lead back to 10 with a perimeter jumper on their next possession, but Seattle U closed the period with a 7-3 spurt to make it a two-possession game at 45-39 at the halftime break.

After Seattle U pulled to within three at 47-44 after a Stricklin 3-pointer with three-plus minutes gone in the third quarter, the Trailblazer countered with 10-straight points as part of a 13-2 run to extend to a 60-46 lead with 2:39 left in the frame.

Paige Cofer's offensive rebound and putback started the rally, while Aaliyah Ibarra and Isaacson both hit from the perimeter on consecutive possessions.

Then out of the media timeout at the 4:04 of the third, Isaacson banked in a straight-away, 10-foot jumper that pushed her atop the 1,000-point plateau. The redshirt senior would add a free throw and Brie Crittendon capped the run with her first bucket of the second half.

Once again the Redhawks would rally with eight-unanswered to close the gap to 60-54 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Trailblazers scored the first nine points of the final stanza points, and their defense held Seattle U without a field goal for six-plus minutes, as Utah Tech extended its lead back 15 points at 69-54.

Utah Tech did not see its lead dip below double digits the rest of the way en route to its first WAC win of the year.

Numbers to know
Taylor scored 12 of her team-high 18 points in the first quarter. The freshman went 6-of-12 from the floor with four 3-pointers, and she finished with career highs of nine rebounds and six steals.

Isaacson just missed her first double-double of the year with 14 points and nine rebounds. In addition to joining the 1,000 Point Club, the redshirt senior (1,001 pts/515 rebs) became just the fourth player in program history with 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.

Not to be outdone, Chardonnay Hartley tied Utah Tech's NCAA-era single game school record with 13 assists and posted her fourth double-double of the year with 14 points. The junior point guard, who picked off a season-high four steals in the win, also became the ninth player in the program's NCAA era to surpass 100 assists in a single season (109).

Meanwhile Crittendon wound up with a double-double of her own, the first of her collegiate career, with 13 points and a game and career-high 11 rebounds.

Utah Tech shot 41.4 percent (29-of-70) from the floor on the night, which included an 11-of-35 effort (.314) from beyond the arc. The Trailblazers also outrebounded Seattle U by a 44-37 count, including a 14-7 on the offensive glass, and recorded 22 assists on their 29 made field goals.

Christeina Bryan led all scorers with 23 points, while Stricklin ended up with 19. Seattle U hit on an even 40.0 percent (22-of-55) of its shot attempts and was 8-of-24 (.333) from the perimeter.
