Utah Tech opens the 2025 calendar year with a trip to the Palouse for pair of January dual meets. The Trailblazers open the trip with a two-team dual at Washington State this Friday evening at 6 p.m. (MT), at Gibb Pool on the WSU campus in Pullman.
Utah Tech will then head across the border to Moscow for a two-team WAC dual at Idaho on Saturday at 12 noon (MT), at the Vandal Aquatic Club.
COACHING STAFF: Utah Tech alumnus Shawn King is in his second season as head coach of the Trailblazer program.
In his first season poolside at Utah Tech, he guided the team to its second fastest season in school history, breaking seven school records, while collecting three All-WAC honors. In addition, the Trailblazers combined to post 75% life best times in competed events during the season.
Utah Tech also performed in the classroom, as the team earned CSCAA Division I Scholar All-America honors with a cumulative 3.79 GPA.
Coach King is joined poolside by second-year assistant coach Colby Clark.
LAST TIME OUT: Utah Tech posted two victories in the team's final home dual meet of the 2024 calendar year against New Mexico State this past Dec. 19, at the HPC Pool.
Cera Mallory won for the second time in as many meets as she collected the Trailblazers' first win of the day, which came in the 100-yard breaststroke in her season-best time of 1:06.64. Mallory also posted a runner-up finish in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:26.92, which was the sixth-fastest time in that event in program history.
Alyssa Gordon later made it a clean sweep in the breaststroke races for the Blazers as she touched the wall first with a time of 2:24.02.
Utah Tech also collected seven total runner-up finishes on the day, beginning the meet with a second place showing in the 200 medley relay, where the team of
Mary Sims Cross,
Grace Benson,
Gabby Henry and
Mandy Farnum posted a time of 1:48.31.
Meanwhile Benson placed second in the 100 backstroke with a 58.80, as did Farnum in the 50 free at 24.18.
Dani Cannon followed suit with her season-best time in the 100 free at 53.83, and
Allie Hayes wrapped up the individual events with a runner-up finish in the 200 IM with a 2:11.30.
Utah Tech then closed out the meet with a second place showing in 400 free relay, with Mallory, Cannon, Benson and Farnum combining to record a 3:34.15.
TRAILBLAZERS IN THE WAC: Utah Tech owns several top-30 WAC individual marks heading into the final two months of the 2024-25 regular season.
