(Charleston, S.C. - Sept. 14, 2024) - The Trailblazers swept Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon to wrap up action at the College of Charleston Invitational hosted at TD Arena.
Utah Tech (6-2) took sets, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18 over Robert Morris (3-6) to finish the tournament with a pair of victories.
For the first time in 2024, the Trailblazers were led in kills by someone other than
Kennedi Knudsen as redshirt senior opposite
Hannah Howard finished with a team-high 12 kills.
Knudsen added 10 kills as she has now reached double figures in kills in all eight matches this season.
Sophomore setter
Marley Roe led the Blazers with 25 assists while junior defensive specialist
Kaycee Bugas added a team-best 12 digs.
The Trailblazers jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the opening set after a kill by a Knudsen. A kill by Howard kept the Blazers lead at six at 18-12 and after the Colonials were able to cut the Utah Tech lead to three at 23-20, UT notched two of the final three points of the set to take a 1-0 lead.
A back-and-forth second set saw a 16-16 draw to get action started. A 4-1 run for the Trailblazers pushed their lead to 20-17, but RMU quickly answered with a 4-2 run of their own. With the Blazers narrowly leading 22-21, back-to-back kills by Howard and a kill by Knudsen sealed a four-point set win.
It was all Trailblazers in the third set to clinch the sweep racing out to a 12-3 start and they pushed it to as many as 10 at 19-9. A 6-1 run for Robert Morris cut the Blazers' lead down to five, 20-15, but that was as close as the Colonials could get as UT hit .424 as a team in the set.
The Trailblazers return home for their home opener on Thursday against Northern Arizona (4-4) at 6 p.m. at Burns Arena.
