Utah Tech men's soccer could not overcome a strong Titan second half as the Trailblazers dropped a 6-1 decision at Cal State Fullerton on Sunday night at Titan Stadium.
The Trailblazers (1-2-0/0-0-0 WAC) found themselves in an early 1-0 hole nearly nine minutes into play when Jorge Quintero centered a pass to Erick Serrano, who got behind the Utah Tech defense and flicked the ball past goalkeeper
Stockton Short, who charged out to try and cut down the chance.Â
Down 2-0 near the midway point of the second half,
Harrison Shaw sent a pass across the midfield stripe to
Elijah Dinkel, who centered the ball to
Bryce Backlund about 20 yards outside the Titan 18-yard box.
Backlund then settled and fired the ball back to Dinkel, who streaked into the left side of the box and punched in a shot through the CSUF keeper for his first collegiate goal to cut the deficit in half at 2-1 with 26:04 to play.
However from there it was all Titans (1-3-0) and they erupted for four goals in a 13-plus minute span, and cruised on from there to secure the home result.Â
The Trailblazers were outshot 19-7 in the match, including a 13-2 count on goal.
Damian Arguello and
Jason Buezo each had two shots to lead the team.
Utah Tech continues its season-opening road swing with a trip to the Northwest next weekend, which start with a match at Gonzaga on Thursday night beginning at 8 p.m. (PT) in Spokane, Wash.Â
