Utah Tech men's soccer opened the 2024 season on the wrong end of a 1-0 road result at CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night at the CSUB Main Soccer Field.
CSUB (1-0-0) netted the lone goal of the match at the 21:08 mark of the first half off the boot of Adrian Jogerst, which was one of 11 shots (6 SOG) the Roadrunners would attempt on the night.Â
The Trailblazers (0-1-0) registered two shots on frame in the opening 45 minutes, with
Damian Arguello having a great look for the first goal of the match turned away by CSUB netminder Zenden Hart just 10 minutes into play.
Utah Tech had another chance just before halftime when
Jason Buezo rocketed a shot at the Roadrunner frame, but again Hart would deny the Trailblazers' bid to crack the scoreboard. The Blazers were limited to just three shots attempts in the second half, all of which were off target.
Buezo and
Bryce Backlund each attempted two shots to lead Utah Tech, which finished with seven attempts on the night. Junior keeper
Stockton Short registered five saves in a losing effort in goal.
Utah Tech will return to action on Thursday, August 29, when the Blazers return to SoCal for a non-conference match at UC Riverside. Â
