Getting Ready for Kickoff:Â Utah Tech opened up the 2024 season last week at Weber State tying the Wildcats, 1-1 with freshman midfielder
Bre Koscielski registering her first career goal and freshman defender
Adele Faller picking up her first career assist.
Know Your Foe: Utah Tech and UNLV have met once in program history with their lone meeting coming in the 2021 season opener in Las Vegas. The Trailblazers won 2-1 with senior
Kalea Woodyatt being the lone current Blazer who played in that contest. UNLV is 1-0 on the season with a 3-1 win at home over Southern Utah last week.
The Trailblazers and Mavericks have also only met once in program history with a scoreless tie last season in Omaha on Aug. 20. Omaha enters Sunday's contest with a 2-0-1 record coming off a 2-1 win at Southern Utah on Thursday afternoon to go along with a 2-0 win over Lindenwood and a 1-1 tie against SIU Edwardsville last weekend.
New and Familiar Faces: Along with adding 14 new players to the roster during the offseason, the Trailblazer squad will also see 23 returning players from last season. The new class in St. George includes Gonzaga transfer Kyah Le, Colorado Northwestern Community College transfer Cadie Young, Utah State transfer Heidi Wilstead, Abilene Christian transfer Lox Neves, and 10 true freshmen.
The class includes six forwards (Wilstead, Neves along with Emily Blanchard, Ella Cotter, Lataya Brost and Lexi Nelson), four midfielders (Le and Young along with Bre Koscielski and Jenna McDonnell), three defenders (Ali Warner, Adele Faller, Allison Flies), and one goalkeeper (Emma McIff).
Exhibition Play:Â Utah Tech went undefeated in their two exhibition matches against USU-Eastern and Snow College at home prior to the start of the regular season. The Trailblazers notched a 6-0 victory over the Eagles on Aug. 8 and a 2-0 win over the Badgers on Aug. 10.
Scoring Machine: Lacy Fox, last season's co-leading scorer, is back for her third season in St. George. The junior forward from Highland, Utah notched 15 points last season with seven goals and one assist, and led the team with three game-winning goals.
What's Next:Â Utah Tech remains home next week to host Westminster University on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
