(Orem, Utah - May 4, 2024) - The Trailblazers closed out the regular season on Saturday at Utah Valley dropping both ends of a doubleheader at Wolverine Field.
Utah Tech (19-30, 12-13 WAC) was held to only two runs on the day with both runs coming in the first game while they outhit UVU, 4-3 in game two, but were unable to get on the scoreboard.
Seven different Trailblazers notched hits in game one with four going for extra bases tallying three doubles and a triple by
Carly Eldredge, her second of the season.
Game two also saw four base knocks with
Rachel Campbell reaching base twice lacing a single and drawing a walk.Â
In the circle,
Tyler Denhart got the start in game one tossing five innings striking out a pair while game two saw
Attlyn Johnston toss a complete game in six innings for her 11th complete game of 2024.
Game One Recap
The Wolverines got the scoring started in the first game with a single run in the first, added an RBI double in the second, before a three-run third inning saw a two-run home run and an RBI single to push their lead to 5-0.
A solo home run in the fifth by the Wolverines extended their lead to 6-0 before the Trailblazers broke up UVU's shutout bid in the sixth with a pair of RBI doubles by Campbell and
Madisen Duryea.
That was as close as UT would be able to get as Utah Valley responded with a three-run home run in the bottom of the frame to make the final score, 9-2 in favor of UVU.
Game Two Recap
Limited to only one inning that saw scoring, Utah Valley exploded for a four-run third inning getting a bases-loaded triple by Britney Moreno to plate three and Moreno came home to score on a wild pitch for a 4-0 lead.
After the Blazers stranded five runners on base through the first six innings, the Blazers were able to get the first two batters of the seventh on base with base hits from Duryea and
Oaklee Trapp.
Unfortunately, a strikeout and double play ended the Trailblazers rally as Utah Valley completed the series sweep.
