Utah Tech head women's basketball coach
JD Gustin announced on Tuesday the signing of Montana State transfer
Mattie Olson to a financial aid agreement ahead of the upcoming 2024-25 season. Olson spent two seasons with the Bobcat program and has three years of eligibility remaining.
"We really liked Mattie coming out of high school and are grateful to now have the opportunity to coach her," Coach Gustin said. "She's a fierce competitor who is highly motivated. We believe she has the tools as a lead guard to help truly facilitate how we play."
The 5-8 guard, who redshirted at MSU last season, was limited to eight games during an injury-plagued 2022-23 season with the Bobcats, during which she averaged 1.4 points and 0.5 rebounds per game as a true freshman. She found the scoring column in four of those eight outings, highlighted by a career-high five points on 2-of-2 shooting with a 3-pointer vs. Arizona State (11/15/22).
A native of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Olson prepped Skyline High School, where she was a three-year letter winner and an all-state performer. She averaged 20.6 points per game during her junior campaign to lead Districts 5 and 6, and was named
Idaho Falls Post Register Girls 4A and 5A Athlete of the Year.
Olson graduated from SHS as the school's single game, single season and career scoring leader. In addition, she was a three-sport athlete for the Grizzlies, earning varsity letters in both soccer and track and field.
Olson is Utah Tech's fifth signee ahead next season, joining fellow spring signees
Andjela Colic (Belgrade, Serbia) and
Aaliyah Ibarra (Las Vegas, Nev/College of Southern Nevada), along with fall prep signees in
Ellie Taylor (West Jordan, Utah/Copper Hills HS, and
Paige Cofer (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle HS).
