(Seattle - April 13, 2024) - The Trailblazers tennis team closed out the regular season on Saturday falling 4-3 at Seattle U in a close battle against the Redhawks.

"It was a good match, great play by the team, just couldn't get that final match for the win," said head coach Eric Pelton.

The Trailblazers opened up the match strong winning the doubles point. 

Rachel Mellor and Mariana Zurita won 6-3 at the top spot and Ya-Chi Hsu and Ana Gutierrez Sampere won 7-5 at number two doubles to give Utah Tech an early 1-0 lead.

The Redhawks responded in singles winning four of six matches with Zurita winning at number three singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Mellor winning at number four singles as her opponent retired.

Seattle U earned wins at the other four singles as Hsu won the opening set at number five singles, 6-2 before falling in a tiebreaker in set two and 6-0 in the deciding set.

Utah Tech opens the WAC Tournament on Thursday afternoon in Harlingen, Texas against top seed Grand Canyon.
