(St. George, Utah - March 5, 2024) - The Trailblazers got the offense going on Tuesday afternoon recording 11 hits, but fell 9-5 to Utah State at Karl Brooks Field.
Utah Tech (6-11) collected base knocks from seven different Blazers with a 3-for-3 performance from
Maka Sonognini along with getting a pair of doubles from
Baylee Howley as well as doubles from
Gabi Giroux and
Carly Eldredge.
On the pitching side,
Sauren Garton made her sixth start of the season tossing 4.1 innings allowing four earned runs and struck out one before giving way to
Tyler Denhart and
Attlyn Johnston to complete the game.
Utah State (10-9) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings before the Trailblazers erupted for three runs in the bottom of the second. After a leadoff walk to
Oaklee Trapp, a two-out double to left field by Howley drove her home to get the Blazers on the board.
Moving to third on a wild pitch, Howley came home to score on a passed ball and an RBI single by Eldredge through the left side scored Sonognini to push UT in front, 3-2.
The Aggies got the lead back in the fifth with three runs plating a pair on an RBI single and added one more run on an RBI triple.
Three more runs for USU in the top of the sixth put the Aggies on top by five, 8-3 before the Trailblazers answered back with a pair of runs scoring on an RBI double down the left field line by Howley and an RBI single by Sonognini.
Utah State added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI single up the middle as the Blazers were retired in order to end the contest.
The Trailblazers head out on the road this weekend traveling to the UCSB Tournament where they will take on UCSB (4-13) and Lehigh (3-9).
