(St. George, Utah - March 26, 2024) - The Trailblazers returned home on Tuesday afternoon falling to BYU, 9-1 in five innings at Karl Brooks Field.
Utah Tech (11-18) totaled five hits with a pair of singles from
Marisa Rubio while getting doubles from both
Carly Eldredge and
Madisen Duryea.
On the pitching side,
Sauren Garton made the start tossing two innings allowing two hits, three runs, one earned and struck out one.
Tyler Denhart followed with a pair of innings while
Danyelle Leone closed out the game with an inning of action.
After a scoreless first inning, the Cougars got the scoring started in the second inning with a pair of runs after a Trailblazer throwing error down to first base following a strikeout.
BYU tacked on six runs in the third to go ahead 8-0 getting the scoring started with a solo home run followed by an RBI single. A three-run home run by Hailey Morrow extended the Cougars lead by seven and the scoring was ended after BYU swiped home.
The Blazers broke up BYU's shutout bid in the bottom of the frame with an RBI double to center field by Eldredge driving home pinch-runner
Sadie Gardner.
The Cougars added a run in the fifth to push their lead to eight as the Trailblazers were retired in order to end the game by run rule.
The Trailblazers are back home this weekend hosting Grand Canon (26-8, 5-2 WAC) on Friday and Saturday.
