(St. George, Utah - Feb. 25, 2024) - The Trailblazers returned to the field on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 victory over Utah State at Karl Brooks Field.

Utah Tech (5-6), who was off on Saturday, totaled eight hits in the contest with two-hit performances from LB Kahahawai-Kekona, Laura Lockard and Marisa Rubio along with getting a home run from Rachel Campbell.

On the pitching side, Attlyn Johnston earned her second win of the campaign with a complete game limiting Utah State (7-7) to eight hits, two runs, one earned, while striking out eight and walking none.

The Trailblazers got the scoring started in the first inning with a pair of runs scoring on an RBI single through the right side by Lockard followed by an RBI double to left center by Rubio.

Utah State broke up the Trailblazers' shutout bid in the fourth with a one-out RBI single back up the middle that scored left fielder Ali Ashner, who reached base on a UT fielding error.

The Blazers got the run back in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run to left field by Campbell to give Utah Tech back a two-run lead.

The Aggies got a run back in the fifth on a two-out RBI single back up the middle by Ashner to make it 3-2 in favor of UT.

Threatening for more runs in the bottom of the inning, the Blazers loaded the bases with one out, but went down on back-to-back strikeouts to keep it a one-run game.

With the Aggies putting runners at second and third with one out in the seventh after a double by Giselle Gonzalez, Johnston came up with back-to-back strikeouts of her own to give Utah Tech its second one-run win of the season.

The Trailblazers close out the Utah Tech Tournament on Monday with an 11 a.m. contest against Eastern Kentucky (9-4).
