Gonsalves Sets Three-Point Program Record in Setback at Utah State

The Trailblazers open a three-game homestead on Friday night hosting Weber State at Burns Arena.

(Logan, Utah - Dec. 7, 2024) - Senior guard Noa Gonsalves became the Utah Tech all-time leader in career made three-pointers on Saturday night in a 92-62 loss at Utah State at Dee Glen Smith Specturm.

"I thought the first half we did exactly what we wanted to do. You have to give them credit, but the first four-five minutes of the second half, they went on a run and got away from us. We are excited to get back home and these games get us ready for WAC play," head coach Jon Judkins said.

Utah Tech (2-9) was led by a fifth-straight double figure contest by redshirt senior guard Justin Bieker, who finished with 14 points. He made a career-high four three-pointers and added three rebounds, two assists and a block.

Sophomore guard Tennessee Rainwater added nine points, his highest scoring outing since Nov. 16 at Wyoming, and grabbed six rebounds and a pair of assists.

Gonsalves was held in single figures for only the third time this season scoring eight points, including two from beyond the arc, and dished out two assists.

How It Happened
The beginning of the contest saw an even start from the jump with back-to-back three-pointers by Bieker keeping the Trailblazers close, as UT trailed the Aggies, 12-11 with 14:39 to play in the opening half.

A 12-0 run for the Aggies extended the Utah State (9-0) lead to 24-11 over the next four minutes before a dunk by Rainwater and a layup by Britton Berrett stopped the UT scoring drought.

Another 8-0 run for USU pushed their lead to 17 (32-15), but the Trailblazers answered right back with a 9-0 run of their own.

Gonsalves' record-setting three-pointer capped the run and brought Utah Tech within eight, but 10 of the final 14 points of the first half went to the Aggies, who took a 42-28 lead to the halftime break.

A 9-2 run for Utah State pushed their lead to 21 (51-30) and the Aggies extended it to 26 (74-48) with 8:27 to go in the contest.

Three straight three-pointers, including a pair by Bieker, brought UT back within 17, but the Aggies responded with a 9-0 run of their to regain a 26-point lead as USU went on for the 30-point victory.
