Utah Tech was done in by a season-high 28 turnovers in a 90-56 road loss at Boise State on Friday afternoon inside the ExtraMile Arena.
How it happenedÂ
The Trailblazers (4-6/0-0 WAC) found themselves in a 15-6 hole with nearly nine minutes gone by in the first quarter, thanks in large part to 11 first-quarter miscues, which led to 11 of the Broncos' 15 points.
Â
However Utah Tech, which connected on five of its first 10 shots, closed the period with five-straight points to trim the deficit to 15-11 after one quarter complete.Â
Â
Nicole Willardson converted a conventional three-point play, while
Aaliyah Ibarra banked home a lay-in at the quarter horn to make it a two-possession game.
Â
Ibarra then opened the second quarter with the Blazers' first 3-pointer of the day to make it a 17-14 game, but Boise State (8-2) countered with 10-straight points to open up its biggest lead of the game at 27-14 with 7:41 to go until halftime.
Â
Chardonnay Hartley finally stopped the Bronco run with a perimeter jumper.
Emily Isaacson and Ibarra followed suit with 3-pointers of their own on Utah Tech's ensuing two possessions.
Â
Unfortunately for the Blazers, the Broncos managed to match them shot for shot as Boise State would outscore Utah Tech 30-15 in the stanza on its way to a commanding 45-26 advantage at the halftime break.Â
Â
The Broncos eventually saw their lead swell to as many as 33 points in the third quarter, and they did not look back from there in salting away the home win.
Â
Numbers to know
Ibarra led two Trailblazers in double figures with 14 points on 6-of-17 shooting and a pair of 3-pointers off the bench. For the junior guard, it marked the fifth-straight game she led Utah Tech in scoring.Â
Â
Ellie Taylor chipped in 11 points on 4-of-10 from the floor, while Isaacson added eight points on 3-of-5 shooting, which included her 200
th career 3-pointer in the second quarter.Â
Â
Utah Tech shot 38.3 percent from the floor (23-of-60), which included a 7-of-26 clip (.269) from beyond the arc.Â
Â
Tatum Thompson and Natalie Pasco both paced the Broncos with 14 points apiece. Boise State, which scored 30 points on the Blazers' 28 miscues, connected on 34-of-74 (.459) from the field, 11-of-30 (.367) from the perimeter. The Broncos also outrebounded Utah Tech by a 43-39 margin.Â
