Utah Tech closed out the road portion of its 2024-25 non-conference schedule on the wrong end of a 97-34 loss at No. 21 Baylor on Wednesday morning inside the Foster Pavilion in Waco, Texas.
How it happened
The Trailblazers (4-8/0-0 WAC) were able to land a couple of haymakers in the early going.
Nicole Willardson and
Emily Isaacson both hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions as Utah Tech opened up a quick 9-4 lead just three minutes into play.
However the lead would be short-lived as the Baylor defense forced nine of Utah Tech's 10 first-quarter turnovers over the final seven minutes of the period.
Those miscues helped propel an 18-1 Bears' run that turned their five-point deficit into a commanding 22-10 advantage after the opening 10 minutes.
Baylor (10-2) kept that momentum going to start the second quarter, scoring the first eight points of the stanza to extend the lead to 30-10 with eight minutes to go until halftime.
Chardonnay Hartley finally stopped the avalanche with a lay-in and free throw at the 7:03 mark, which ended a 10-minute stretch between Trailblazer field goals.
Emily Isaacson would knock down a 3-pointer later in the frame, but the senior's bucket could not stop the Bears, who hit six treys of their own in the period en route to a decisive 56-16 lead at the halftime break.
Baylor would go on to coast through the second half in sending the Trailblazers to their fourth-straight loss.
