Utah Tech women's soccer fell to Seattle U 2-0 in the first round of the WAC Tournament on Sunday night at Elmer Gray Stadium.
In the sixth minute, goalkeeper
Brianna Frey registered her first save with a stop on the bottom right side of the net. Frey picked up a second save in the 13th minute on a Redhawk shot down the middle.Â
Seattle U logged 58% possession and seven shots in the first half, but the Trailblazer defense kept SU off the board, only allowing three shots on target through the first 45 minutes.Â
Freshman
Lataya Brost fired the Trailblazers' first shot of the match on goal in the 40th minute. SU goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan recorded her first save on the opportunity.Â
Senior
Emily Garbett tried a shot down the middle in the 53rd minute that was saved by Kirgan.Â
Frey made a highlight save in the 60th minute when she punched a Redhawk shot over the crossbar for her fourth save. Frey would collect one more save in the 74th minute on a dive to her right.
Seattle U found the back of the net in the 75th minute. Redhawk junior Bella Bonnett scored on a header off a cross by freshman Zoe Hopkins.Â
On a counter-attack, the Redhawks added an insurance goal when SU sophomore Kailee Wilson flicked the ball over Frey and into the left corner of the net in the 80th minute.Â
Junior
Kyah Le fired a shot on target from long range in the 84th minute that was saved in the bottom right corner of the net on UT's last shot on target.
Utah Tech (5-7-5, 2-5-1 WAC) tallied five saves to SU's three. Seattle U (10-3-5, 5-1-2 WAC) outshot the Trailblazers 15-3, with an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Redhawks committed three more fouls than UT, 10-7.
