Utah Tech women's soccer fell to Seattle U 2-1 in a home conference match on Sunday at Greater Zion Stadium.
Seattle U dominated possession early, getting off 10 shots through the first 20 minutes of the match, but the UT defense kept the Redhawks off the scoreboard.
The Trailblazers' best chances in the first half came just under midway through the match. Senior
Emily Garbett fired a shot down the middle of the goal that was saved by Redhawk goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan. In the 22nd minute, freshman
Lataya Brost got a shot blocked then on a second effort, nearly got past Kirgan in the top left corner of the goal.
Defensively, Utah Tech goalkeeper
Brianna Frey recorded six saves to blank the Redhawks in the first half.
Seattle U started the scoring in the 59th minute. Senior Kait Raffensperger headed the ball into the net from senior Jourdyn Curran's corner kick to give the Redhawks a 1-0 lead.
In the 79th minute, sophomore Kailee Wilson scored on a cross-box shot into the upper right corner of the goal to give Seattle U a 2-0 advantage. Freshman Kyla Schuster assisted the goal.
To avoid the shutout, junior
Lacy Fox recovered a miss-hit clear, dribbled to the top left of the box and beat Kirgan on a cannon of a shot to the upper-right corner of the goal.
Seattle U (6-2-4, 2-0-1 WAC) outshot UT 20-12 and held a 9-6 lead in shots on goal. The Redhawks committed three more fouls than Utah Tech (3-5-4, 0-3-0 WAC), 7-4, and received the game's only yellow card.
Defensively, Frey finished with seven saves, two more than Kirgan's five.
The Trailblazers next host California Baptist on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. As the last home match of the regular season, Utah Tech will honor its graduating seniors with senior day festivities.
