Trailblazers Extend Winning Streak With Sweep Over Seattle U

The Trailblazers take on Utah Valley on Saturday for Senior Night at 7 p.m. at Burns Arena.

(St. George, Utah - Oct. 31, 2024) - The Trailblazers extended their winning streak to four and punched their ticket to the WAC Tournament with a sweep over Seattle U on Thursday night at Burns Arena.

Utah Tech (14-7, 8-3 WAC), who hit a season-high .469 as a team, took sets, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18 over Seattle U (5-16, 3-8 WAC).

Led by junior outside hitter Kennedi Knudsen, named the WAC Player of the Week on Wednesday, with 18 kills, she hit a season-best .531 adding four digs and three block assists.

Freshman setter Ireland Avalos posted a season-high 24 assists while junior middle blocker Casidy Fried tacked on a team-leading eight blocks along with seven kills.

Jumping out to a 15-11 lead in the opening set, the Redhawks got within two at 16-14, but a 4-0 run for the Trailblazers with a pair of kills, an attack error and a service ace by Marley Roe put the Blazers ahead 20-14.

UT went on to win the set by eight after a service error by SU to take a 1-0 lead.

The second set saw the Blazers race out to an 8-2 lead and after the Redhawks got within seven at 18-11, UT closed out the set with an emphatic 7-1 run for a 13-point set win.

Looking for to clinch their ninth sweep of the season in the third set, the Redhawks got within one at 15-14, it was all Trailblazers down the set.

UT went on a 10-4 run capped off by a kill by Knudsen and a service ace by Roe to complete the seven-point set win.

Utah Tech led the match in kills (46-25), service aces (7-2), blocks (8.0-3.0) and digs (33-25) while holding the Redhawks to .075 hitting percentage.

The Blazers are back in action against Utah Valley (16-7, 7-4 WAC) on Saturday for Senior Night at 7 p.m. at Burns Arena.
