(St. George, Utah – Sept. 8) Trailblazer women's soccer played Thursday evening, falling 1-0 to the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona at Greater Zion Stadium. The result moves Utah Tech to 2-4-1 with a home contest against Portland State scheduled for Sunday.

Savannah Hansen and
Ella Rusick made their first starts of the 2023 season as Northern Arizona came out firing early, attempting three shots and forcing a save out of
Brianna Frey within the first two minutes. Rusick quickly fired back and forced a save in the third minute but Utah Tech was unable to convert.

After both teams went back-and-forth throughout the first half it would be the Lumberjacks who broke things open late in the first half, scoring in the 43
rd to take a lead into halftime. Utah Tech looked close to scoring in the 78
th when Hansen found a look from outside the box that forced a diving save, but Northern Arizona's defense held tight to keep the 1-0 lead at the game's final whistle.

Hansen, Rusick and
Tori Brown all led the team with two shots apiece as the Trailblazers finished with 10 attempts, including five on goal. Utah Tech drew 10 fouls as Frey finished with three saves on 17 shots faced. Frey, alongside
Gracie Knutzen,
Michelle Rodriguez,
Mauri Ashman and
McKinley Barney, also played the full 90 minutes.
Trailblazer women's soccer is back in action this Sunday, hosting Portland State. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
