(St. George, Utah – Sept. 22, 2023) Trailblazer women's soccer was in action Friday night at Greater Zion Stadium, playing the Southern Utah Thunderbirds to a 1-1 draw. The result moves Utah Tech's record to 5-4-2 on the season with two more home games slated for next weekend.

Emily Garbett returned to the starting lineup as Utah Tech would put the pressure on Southern Utah early, with
Brynlee Rider forcing a save less than three minutes after kick off. Both teams would create multiple scoring opportunities throughout the next 20 minutes until the in-form forward from Highland, Utah broke the game open.

Lacy Fox tapped the ball in for her sixth goal of the season, opening the game's scoring less than four days after being named the WAC's Offensive Player of the Week. UT would out-shoot SUU 5-1 across the next 20 minutes but didn't find another as the Trailblazers held a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.

Utah Tech carried its first half momentum into the second period of play, once again out-shooting the Thunderbirds, this time 6-1, in the opening 25 minutes of action, but was unable to convert. Despite the limited chances, Southern Utah found a leveling goal in the 77
th minute, and neither team would regain the lead as it finished as a 1-1 draw.

Garbett and
Tessa Thornton led all players with four shots apiece as Utah Tech out-shot the Thunderbirds, 17-9, though both teams finished with four shots on goal apiece. The Trailblazers took eight corner kicks to SUU's one and controlled 55% of possession as
Brianna Frey made three saves in net. Frey, Garbett and
Gracie Knutzen all played the full 90 minutes.
