Utah Tech closed out the final day of its Trailblazer Softball Invitational with a 6-5 victory over Idaho State on Monday morning at Karl Brooks Field. The Trailblazers won four of the five games they played over the weekend to improve to 13-6 on the season.
Â
After spotting the Bengals (6-12) a 1-0 lead in the second, Utah Tech struck for single runs in the home second and third frames to take a 2-1 advantage. Madison Duryea tied the game with a two-out RBI double, which was followed an inning later with a one-out
Carly Eldredge run-scoring single.Â
Â
ISU would tie the game in the fourth, taking advantage of two of the four Trailblazer errors in the game to push across a two-out run to knot the score at 2-2.
Â
However Utah Tech returned the favor an inning later, when after a two-out Bengal miscue loaded the bases,
Shea Clements unloaded them with her first home run of the season, a grand slam over the center field fence to make a 6-2 game.
Â
Idaho State countered with a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh and had the tying run on second base with two outs, but UT hurler
Kate Dolinski (W, 2-3) induced an Ava Brown groundout to end the game.
Â
Duryea and Eldredge each had two hits as Utah Tech collected 11 hits on the day. Dolinski tied a career high with five strikeouts, and scattered three earned runs and 10 hits over seven innings to earn her second win of the season. Â
Â
Utah Tech will head back out on the road this weekend to play five games at the Fresno State Bulldog Classic in Fresno, Calif.Â
