Utah Tech hits the road to take on SFA and SHSU

TIP OFF: Utah Tech women's basketball will continue WAC action Thursday, Jan. 5 with a road game at Stephen F. Austin and then later will take on Sam Houston on Saturday, Jan. 7.

FAST BREAK
•  Utah Tech has a 9-4 overall record and are 1-1 in WAC action. The Trailblazers are coming off an 68-58 win over Utah Valley. UT is on a one game winning streak.
•  The Blazers returned four starters from last year.
•  Utah Tech was picked No. 11 in the WAC preseason polls.
•  Head Coach JD Gustin is in his seventh season at the helm of the Trailblazers.

DOUBLE DOUBLE DOWNLOAD: Breaunna Gillen leads the Trailblazers with four double-doubles on the season. She had double-doubles in back-to-back games against Washginton and Benedictine Mesa.

Emily Isaacson has also recorded one double double on the season with her 12 point, 12 rebound performance against Benedictine Mesa.

RECORD BREAKING WIN: Utah Tech set a new standard for greatness against LaVerne on Nov. 26 with 112 points scored. This is the new school record for most points scored in a game.

Breaunna Gillen also set a new school record as she threw up an impressive 13 assists for most assists in a single game.

GILLEN BECOMES ALL-TIME ASSIST LEADER: Breaunna Gillen has officially become the All-Time Assist Leader in Utah Tech history. She now has 285 career assists. She has posted 92 assists so far this season.

IN THE BOOKS: Several Trailblazers have made their way into the record books with their performances so far this season.Breaunna Gillen just broke into the top 10 in all-time scorers in school history with 799 total points. She sits at No. 5 in all time career field goals made with 338 and No.9  in percentage with a .437. Gillen holds the record with 285 total assists in her career.  Gillen sits at No. 9 in most free throws made with 150.

Emily Isaacson is also in the records for made 3-point field goals with 130 in her career and No. 6 in blocks with 41. She just broke into the top 10 in rebounding with 138 total in her career

Maggie McCord broke into the top ten in most 3-point field goals made with 86 total.

THREE UTAH TECH WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Gillen was named WAC Player of the week twice this season. She earned her first honor when she recorded a double double against PAC-12 foe, Washginton with 21 points and 11 assists and again against Benedictine Mesa, Gillen recorded another double double with 17 points and 10 assists. Her second honor came after a career high performance of 26 points against Utah State. Additionally, Gillen had 23 points against Big XI competition Kansas State.

Macie Warren also earned Player of the Week honors after her career high performance of 29 points against Air Force going 12-16 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the
arc. Warren also pulled down eight rebounds and recorded two assists and two steals against Air Force.

ON THE DUSTY TRAIL: Utah Tech has a 76-113 (.401) record on the road since joining the NCAA in 2006-07. Under Head Coach JD Gustin, the Blazers are 24-46 (.328) on the road. The Trailblazers are currently 3-3 on the road this year.
 

SFA Quick Facts

•  The Ladyjacks come into the game with at No. 1 in the WAC standings with an 11-2 overall record and a 1-0 record in WAC play.

They are on a six-game winning streak. 

SFA is coming off a 83-78 win over Abilene Christian. 

This is head coach Mark Kellogg's seventh season at the helm of the Ladyjacks.

Jacks vs. Blazers 

•  Utah Tech has a 0-1 record against SFA. 

•  The last time the two teams met up was in Feb. 2022 where the Trailblazers fell to the Ladyjacks 81-54.

•  UT has never taken on SFA in Nacogdoches.

They are on an two-game winning streak.

The Bearkats are coming off a 92-72 win over Seattle U. 

This is head coach Ravon Justice's third season at the helm of the Bearkats.

•  Utah Tech has a 0-1 record against SHSU. 

•  The last time the two teams met up was in Feb. 2022 where the Trailblazers fell 74-72 in overtime. 

•  UT has never played Sam Houston in Huntsville, TX.
