Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MSOC lose 1-0 on Sacramento State late-game goal

Utah Tech men's soccer dropped a 1-0 loss against Sacramento State in their last home match before WAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Trailblazers started the match controlling possession. Larsen Rogers was shown yellow in the 15th minute for a bad foul in the midfield.

Minutes later, Julian Herrera found the Trailblazers first shot on the night, but he could not put it on frame to test the Hornet's keeper.

The Trailblazers continued to defend throughout the rest of the half and sustained a heavy attack from the Hornet offense. Goalkeeper Jacob Zimmerman commanded the back line to keep the Trailblazer defense organized.

In the second half, the Trailblazers pushed for a goal. They found two good chances from Jimi Villasenor and a shot high from Guglielmo Bianchi, but neither truly tested the Hornet's goalkeeper.

After the Trailblazers held strong against eight shots in the second half, the Hornets found an equalizer in the dying moments of the match. Off a set-piece, the Hornet's Jaime Robles could put the ball in the back of the net for the game-winner.

STAT BREAKDOWN: The Trailblazers had five shots with two on goal. Jimi Villasenor led the team with two shots. Julian Herrera, Guglielmo Bianchi, and Larsen Rogers had a shot on goal.

Jacob Zimmerman started and played the full 90 minutes in goal and made one save.

Sacramento State ended the match with 12 shots and six shots on goal.

Utah Tech now has a 1-6-0 record on the season.

There were five yellows shown in this match. Three Trailblazers were shown yellow. Larsen Rogers, Sacha Etienne-Courtois, and Aby Gomez were among the three shown yellow.

UP NEXT: The Trailblazer men now head back out on the road for matches at Gonzaga and Portland on Sept. 23 and Sept. 25.
