Utah Tech men's soccer suffered a tough 6-1 loss at Marquette in their second of four road matches to open the 2022 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Utah Tech started out the match playing catch up after giving up a goal just two minutes into the match.
Taylor Rogers would find an equalizer in the 5th minute to bring things level once again.
Rogers' goal would be the Trailblazers first of the year as well as his first career goal. The freshman pressed the Golden Eagle's backline heavily on a backpass to the goalkeeper and forced a sloppy pass that Rogers was able to get a touch on and redirect into the back of the net. The goal would be the lone goal for the Trailblazers in the afternoon.
After Rogers' goal, the Golden Eagles put a heavy pressure on the Trailblazer backline and were able to get two more goals in the opening 15 minutes, taking an early 3-1 lead. Heading to the halftime break, Marquette was able to tack on two more goals and carried a 5-1 lead at the half.
Out of the halftime break, tactical changes were made to adjust to the pressure from the Golden Eagles. With sophomore goalkeeper Jacob Zimmerman stepping between the posts, the Trailblazers held a stronger line defensively, allowing just one goal in the final 45 minutes.Â
The Trailblazers would suffer a 6-1 loss on the day as the look ahead to next week's match against UC San Diego.
