DSU season concludes with Burgess' career high eight strikeouts

Dixie State softball's 2022 season came to an end Saturday afternoon with a 8-0 loss to Seattle U. The Trailblazers sent off two seniors in Kasey Crawford and Carissa Burgess

How it happened: Seattle U got an early jump on Dixie State by putting up four runs in the first inning.

The Trailblazers tried to answer in the bottom of the first with Carly Eldredge leading off with a single and getting pushed to scoring position thanks to a double by Hannah Hughbanks. Shea Clements drew a walk to load up the bases but DSU couldn't get any runs across as the inning closed.

The second inning went scoreless for both teams. Seattle U put up one run in the top of the third thanks to one hit and one DSU error. After three complete the Redhawks had a 5-0 lead.

The Redhawks were able to get three more runs in the top of the sixth to push their score to eight. While Dixie State was only able to get four more hits throughout the rest of the game. With no offensive momentum, the Trailblazers fell 8-0 after six innings.

At the plate: Dixie State ended the game with six total hits including two doubles. Eldredge, Hughbanks and Laura Lockard each went 2-3 at the plate.

In the circle: Burgess started in the circle for Dixie State and pitched 5.1 innings. She ended the day with eight strikeouts. Her eighth strikeout of the game was her final strikeout as a Trailblazer as well as a new career high.

Kate Dolinski finished the game in the circle and ended the game with two strikeouts.
