Trailblazer women's basketball season recap

NOTES TO KNOW: 
• Dixie State ended the season with a 10-19 record on the season and a 6-12 record in WAC action.
• DSU ended the season with two big wins in its last four games.
• Dixie State played 16 home games and went 8-8 this season in the Burns Arena.

DIXIE STATE QUICK NOTES: 
• The Trailblazers averaged a .412 shooting percentage and .329 from three.
• DSU averaged 67 points per game scoring 1942 points this season.
• The Blazers had 162 steals, 80 blocks, 412 assists and 1078 rebounds in the 2021-22 season.

NOTABLE MOMENTS:
• FIRST WIN: The Trailblazers opened the 2021-22 season with a 107-57 win against Life Pacific. This game tied for the highest scoring game in school history with 107 points scored. Breaunna Gillen earned a triple-double with 14 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Additionally the game broke the record for most made and attempted 3-point field goals in a game. Was fourth in school history in largest victory margin with 50 points and tied #3 in school history for assists in a game with 28.

• FIRST CONFERENCE WIN: The Trailblazers were in their second year of transitioning to Division I but after COVID-19 canceled the 2020-21 season, the Blazers were finally able to secure their first WAC win this season. On Dec. 30, 2021 the Blazers played Tarleton State to a 57-49 win in the Burns Arena for the Dixie State's first Division I women's basketball conference win.

• EMILY ISAACSON FOR THREE: Isaacson finished the year with a .411 percentage from three. Isaacson was first in the WAC for three-pointers made with 88. Additionally, Isaacson finished the season scoring 376 points. Isaacson was also fourth in the WAC in rebounds with 202.

• ROAD UPSET AT CALIFORNIA BAPTIST: One of the Blazers road wins this season came on the road at California Baptist in an 81-77 road win. This was one of only two home conference losses for the Lancers in the 2021-22 season. Isaacson had 21 points against the Lancers and Davison had 19 points and nine rebounds.

• BREAUNNA GILLEN'S ASSISTS: Breaunna Gillen was the team's leading scorer in the 2021-22 season with 441 points but that's not all. Gillen was second in the WAC in assists with 156 and had the second highest shooting percentage for the Blazers.

WAC AWARDS
• SHANAIJAH DAVISON NAMED TO NEWCOMER TEAM
Senior Shanaijah Davison was named to the 2021-22 season WAC Newcomer Team. Davison played in and started 16 games this season notching 267 points and 101 rebounds. Davison played just one season as a Trailblazer.

•  EMILY ISAACSON NAMED TO ALL WAC SECOND TEAM
Redshirt sophomore Emily Isaacson was named to the WAC Second Team. Isaacson played and started in 20 games for the Blazers notching a .442 shooting percentage and 376 points. Isaacson recorded five double-doubles on the season, 202 rebounds, 45 assists, 31 steals and 31 blocks. 

COACHING STAFF: JD Gustin is in his sixth season as Dixie State head coach. Gustin now has a 59-76 record as a head coach for DSU. Gustin has brought with him assistant coaches Matt Legerski and Nicole Yazzie and Director of Basketball Operations Sarah Wenger.

2022 ROSTER BREAKDOWN: Dixie State had six returners from the 2020-21 season and five newcomers to the team.
